Sum rules for inhomogeneous Coulomb fluids, and ideal conductor boundary conditions

چکیده
2014 The charge correlation function of an inhomogeneous Coulomb fluid is shown to obey a sum rule involving electrical multipole moments of arbitrary order; this sum rule is a further generalization of the StillingerLovett second-moment condition. An application is given for a fluid bounded by an ideal conductor wall; it is shown how the chemical potentials control both the bulk and surface properties. J. Se p 19 95 Universality in Some Classical Coulomb Systems of Restricted Dimension
Coulomb systems in which the particles interact through the d-dimensional Coulomb potential but are confined in a flat manifold of dimension d−1 are considered. The Coulomb potential is defined with some boundary condition involving a characteristic macroscopic distance W in the direction perpendicular to the manifold : either it is periodic of period W in that direction, or it vanishes on one ...
متن کاملA Generalization of the Stillinger-Lovett Sum Rules for the Two-Dimensional Jellium
In the equilibrium statistical mechanics of classical Coulomb fluids, the long-range tail of the Coulomb potential gives rise to the StillingerLovett sum rules for the charge correlation functions. For the jellium model of mobile particles of charge q immersed in a neutralizing background, the fixing of one of the q-charges induces a screening cloud of the charge density whose zeroth and second...
متن کاملShear Waves Through Non Planar Interface Between Anisotropic Inhomogeneous and Visco-Elastic Half-Spaces
A problem of reflection and transmission of a plane shear wave incident at a corrugated interface between transversely isotropic inhomogeneous and visco-elastic half-spaces is investigated. Applying appropriate boundary conditions and using Rayleigh’s method of approximation expressions for reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained for the first and second order approximation of the...
متن کاملExactly solvable model of the 2D electrical double layer
We consider equilibrium statistical mechanics of a simplified model for the ideal conductor electrode in an interface contact with a classical semi-infinite electrolyte, modeled by the twodimensional Coulomb gas of pointlike ± unit charges in the stability-against-collapse regime of reduced inverse temperatures 0 ≤ β < 2. If there is a potential difference between the bulk interior of the elect...
متن کاملRazumov–Stroganov sum rule: a proof based on multi-parameter generalizations
We prove that the sum of entries of the suitably normalized groundstate vector of the O(1) loop model with periodic boundary conditions on a periodic strip of size 2n is equal to the total number of n× n alternating sign matrices. This is done by identifying the state sum of a multi-parameter inhomogeneous version of the O(1) model with the partition function of the inhomogeneous six-vertex mod...
